A Weekend away at Mirror Lake Inn

Happy November, guys!

While foliage season has come and gone (and been replaced by snow!) up in the Adks, it’s still going strong down south in the city! This Fall has been the best in YEARS, and I’m so fortunate I was able to experience peak colors in Lake Placid during our recent stay at Mirror Lake Inn.

Situated along the banks of its namesake, Mirror Lake Inn has been a prestigious luxury destination in the Olympic village since the 1930s. Boasting impeccable grounds and two private beaches, we ended up exploring outside every chance we had (not an easy feat, given how cozy everything was indoors!). The beach and adjoining docks were incredible serene - the perfect place to curl up in Adirondack chairs and relax!

Just like the grounds, our room was an incredible mix of rustic charm and luxurious comfort. We stayed in one of the spacious Placid suites, located on the top floor of the Colonial House. I loved waking up to a view of the Great Range right outside our window - honestly the definition of picture perfect! My favorite features of our room (aside from our patio view!) were the cozy fireplace, and the HUGE sanijet tub in the bathroom. The bathroom even had a tv so you could watch movies while enjoying a bath, which had me feeling VERY Kevin McCallister-esque circa Home Alone 2.

During our stay, we were able to try out two of the wonderful dining options available onsite - The Taste Bistro & Bar and The View Restaurant. Both meals left our bellies full and happy. As a side note, both restaurants favor meat eaters over vegetarians, but there are veggie friendly options! For a wider assortment, The Cottage Restaurant across the street has a great menu, and offers a laid back atmosphere (I hear it’s THE après ski spot after a day on the slopes of Whiteface!).

On our final day, we took a tour of the main buildings to see some of the other room’s interiors. Since we stayed on one of the lakefront properties, we didn’t get to fully experience the coziness of the main building (if you stay here this Winter, make sure to carve out time to sprawl out in the library! It’s one of my favorite spots.). Located on the lower level here are the spa and pool areas, as well. While we didn’t have time to try out any of the amazing treatments available at the spa, we DID make sure to spend some time at the pool & hot tub!

Our stay at Mirror Lake Inn was truly an amazing experience. We left feeling renewed and completely relaxed, which is always a rarity for us city dwellers! I can’t wait to head back to the Inn this Winter, to see it dressed in its holiday best. I can only imagine the coziness of it all! A big thank you to Mirror Lake Inn for hosting us, and especially to Sandy Caligiore, PR Rep for the Inn, and our tour guide!
